2007/08 MATCH REPORTS

2007/08 Reports:
U’s v Basingstoke (01/12/07)

Final score: 1-2

After being unbeaten in three the U's came into this game with a renewed optimism. On his home debut Craig Dundas had Sutton's best chance in the first half but couldn't quite keep the ball under control after rounding the 'keeper. The first period also saw Craig Tanner stretchered off after a rather nasty looking challenge.
Twelve minutes into the second half Dundas gave the home support something to cheer about as he burst into Basingstoke's area and calmly finished. The U's then had a good spell as they searched for a second, but soon began to sit too deep and 'Stoke took full advantage of the situation. Two goals in six minutes saw Basingstoke turn the game around and leave the U's empty handed.

Final score: 5-0

The U's grabbed an early lead through a Nicky Greene penalty and then went on to put away another four in the second half. U’s v Welling United (08/12/07)

Final score: 0-0

At one point it looked like the game might be called off due to heavy rainfall, but the Welling staff did well to prepare a playable pitch. Both sides had chances but neither could find the back of the net. Sutton's task was made all the more difficult when Jason Henry was dismissed, with a straight red for an off the ball incident although the Welling player certainly made the most of it. Despite being down to ten men the U's managed to grab a point.

Team: Phil Wilson, Dean Sammut, John Scarborough (Alan Bray), Lewis Gonsalves, Jack Haverson, Bashiru Alimi, Nicky Greene, Paul Honey, Craig Dundas, Warren McBean (Harry Ottaway), Jason Henry. Subs (not used): Rob Hughes, Ouzo Opara, Gareth Williams.

U’s v Forest Green Rovers, FAT (15/12/07)

Final score: 1-4

After going ahead in the seventh minute the U's looked like the side that was going to advance into the next round. However, after John Scarborough conceded a penalty, for which he received his marching orders, the game slowly slipped away from Sutton. The penalty was converted and the U's chances began to dry up. Forest Green's second came with little over a quarter of an hour to go and then they snatched another couple in the final minutes.

Team: Phil Wilson, Dean Sammut, Lewis Gonsalves, Jack Haverson, John Scarborough, Bashiru Alimi, Jason Henry, Paul Honey, Harry Ottaway, Warren McBean (Alan Bray), Nicky Greene (Liam Wright). Subs (not used): Rob Hughes, Jason Goodchild, Gareth Williams.

U’s v Bishops Stortford (22/12/07)

Final score: 0-1

The U's almost had a point in the bag, but an awful decision from the linesmen saw Stortford steal a goal in the final minute. The U's produced few chances themselves although an early shot from Liam Wright and then a flurry of good corners towards the end of the first half did call the Stortford defence and 'keeper into action. Sutton also had a good shout for a penalty when Craig Dundas' shot was handled at the near post.

Team: Phil Wilson, Dean Sammut, Lewis Gonsalves, Jack Haverson, John Scarborough, Bashiru Alimi, Liam Wright, Paul Honey (Jason Goodchild), Craig Dundas, Rob Hughes, Nicky Greene. Subs (not used): Alan Bray, Tom Hughes, Bernard Collignon, Jason Goodchild, Gareth Williams.

U’s v Hampton & Richmond Borough (26/12/07)

Final score: 2-2

Sutton travelled to the Beveree and after four minutes had taken the lead from a Jack Haverson header which looped in at the far post. Then the Ref, who must be in panto somewhere, stepped in to spoil the game. Firstly he awarded Hampton a penalty after it appeared that Phil Wilson made a legitimate save. Then just before half time he failed to award one of several fouls to the U's and from this Hampton when on to take the lead.
The U's grabbed an equaliser when Craig Dundas knocked the ball through and Liam Wright managed to nip in between the defence and the 'keeper to grab Sutton's second. The Beavers then laid siege to the U's goal but Sutton managed to hang on for the point.

U’s v Maidenhead United (29/12/07)

Final score: 1-1

Sutton, who produced few chances in the first half and went behind to a goal just before the half hour, left it late on to equalise. Craig Dundas got the U's back on level terms, with seven minutes left to play, forcing in the rebound after his initial shot was well saved.

Team: Phil Wilson, Dean Sammut, Alan Bray, Tom Hughes, Jack Haverson, Bashiru Alimi, Lee Maskell, Jason Goodchild (Warren McBean), Liam Wright (Harry Ottaway), Craig Dundas, Rob Hughes (Nicky Greene). Subs (not used): Paul Honey, Gareth Williams.
