2007/08 MATCH REPORTS

2007/08 Reports:
U’s v Hampton & Richmond Borough (01/01/08)

Final score: 2-1

A superb performance from the U's saw them grab their first home league victory of the season. Two goals from Craig Dundas, one from a penalty, were enough to give the U's something to celebrate on New Year's day. Hampton grabbed their goal minutes after Dundas' penalty opener, but Dundas was in the right place at the right time to put in the winner just after the start of the second half.

U’s v St. Albans City (05/01/08)

Final score: 2-1

The U's completed a last minute smash and grab raid to take all three points. It looked like it was going to be another one of those days when the Saints got a penalty very early on, thankfully the taker fluffed it straight down the middle into a grateful Phil Wilson's arms.
St Albans took a second half lead as they dominated the play. However three dismissals in a short period of time swung things back in the U's favour. Firstly, Nicky Greene got involved with a Saints' midfielder and both rightly got there marching orders. Then a Saints' player was given his second yellow after bringing down Bash in the box. Craig Dundas confidently stepped up to make it all level from the spot. The last minute winner was superbly crafted by Harry Ottaway who skipped between two defenders on the right and then put in an inch perfect pass for Scarborough to score.

After the high of two consecutive wins the U's were bought back to earth with a bump by the high-flying team from the spa city. Final score: 2-4

Despite going 1-0 up within a minute of the start and then equalising (2-2) in the second minute of the second half Sutton failed to take anything away from Champion Hill. Andre McCollin grabbed all four of the home team's goals, while Craig Dundas got both of Sutton's.

U’s v Met Police, SSC (22/01/08)

Final score: 3-0

After a very dull 90 minutes the U's entered extra time, mainly due to a few excellent first half saves from Phil Wilson. In the first period of extra time Bashiru Alimi was questionably felled in the box and Rob Hughes stepped up to convert from the spot. Harry Ottaway then added two after the Police had been reduced to ten men. The first was unselfishly laid across by Paul Honey and the second was crashed home from ten yards. Despite this the score line flattered the U's who offered little to trouble the Ryman South team.

Team: Phil Wilson, John Scarborough, Alan Bray, Tom Hughes, Jack Haverson, Bashiru Alimi, Paul Honey, Lee Maskell (Liam Wright), Harry Ottaway, Craig Dundas, Jason Henry (Rob Hughes). Subs (not used): Dean Sammut, Warren McBean.

Goals: R Hughes (pen), Ottaway 2

U’s v Newport County (26/01/08)

Final score: 0-1

Once again Newport turned up to GGL and scored through a Bowen stop start penalty. The U's had earlier been denied a penalty of their own when Craig Dundas was blatantly wrestled to the floor. Dundas was again the only player who looked likely to score for the U's and came close on several occasions.

Team: Phil Wilson, Dean Sammut, Alan Bray, Tom Hughes, Karim El-Salahi, Bashiru Alimi, Rob Hughes (Jason Henry), Paul Honey, Harry Ottaway, Craig Dundas, Liam Wright. Subs (not used): Jack Haverson, John Scarborough, Warren McBean, Kevin Davies.
